Archbishop Dean celebrates a Low Mass

The mass in honor of the feast of Sts. Cyril and Methodius, Bishops and Confessors, was celebrated by the Archbishop Emeritus of the Archdiocese of Palo, Leyte, and the former Chairman of the Episcopal Commission on the Doctrine of the Faith, Most Reverend Pedro R. Dean D.D.

A Low Mass celebrated by a bishop is almost identical with one celebrated by a priest, except that the bishop puts on the maniple only after the Prayers at the Foot of the Altar. The Bishop also bestows the pontifical solemn blessing, and uses the greeting “Peace be with you” (Pax vobis) rather than that used by the priest

: “The Lord be with you” (Dominus vobiscum).

The mass was held at the side chapel of the Christ the King Parish, Greenmeadows Ave., White Plains, Quezon City.

One interesting fact about the Archbishop is that he was ordained at the Rizal Memorial Stadium on November 30, 1956, and not at the Manila Cathedral for some reason. This story was told to me by a friend and I was able to confirm it at the CBCP website.

Here are some of the photos:

Next Saturday, the mass presider will be the great Filipino Jesuit Liturgist, Fr. Timoteo Ofrasio, SJ SLD.

Hope to see you all there.

Live Long and Prosper!
